how can i hook up an 18ga. speaker wire to a female RCA adapter???

i have computer speakers that are capable of being hooked up to a home stereo, but my dilema is that the speakers have rca jacks, and the stereo only accepts regular speaker wire. does anyone know of a store that i can get this wire configuration from ( i checked radio shack and their site sux) or maybe i can make this wire if someone has done this before. all useful info will be gladly appreciated. thanks.

I guess that this isn’t an impossible thing to accomplish but it should be answered whether or not your computer speakers are passive (very far and few between–mostly old and incapable of being connected to the output of even a modest stereo receiver).

If they are passive–this being the only type that you’d want to connect with any sort of real hope of anything moderately enjoyable coming from them–then you’ll want to get an audio only RCA-to-RCA interconnect cable. Since it looks like you’re going for the inexpensive solution here, go to the Dollar Store to get them.

Once you have them, cut the wire in half (scissors achieve this to miraculous effect). Grab either half you like and strip the wires down about half an inch. Inside of the insulation of one side, you’ll find two wires–one showing it’s metallic innerworkings and the other insulated. This will be replicated on the other side.

These are for the left and right speaker. The one that is red is for the right side. Be sure not to let the wires touch–not even a strand–when you strip the inner insulated wire… That wire will be the negative (or black) connection on the receiver.

Repeat with the other side and connect the RCA ends to the speakers (red for right)…

This should work…

I don’t believe that this is worth your time or effort, but this is how I’ve done it when connecting small speakers with RCA cables to inferior sound systems. Once I had my first floorstanding speakers with twelve-inch woofers, all of that madness stopped.

But I haven’t forgotten how…
